Week eight journal

I think Fathom is a very cool program. It is very similar to tinker plots but i think i might like it a little better. It is definitely easier to plot data on graphs than tinker plots. Fathom makes it very easy to drag attributes from either the inspector or a table into the desired axis on the graph. Also I like how, like GSP, the data is live updating. If you drag a point on the graph the table values change, and if you change the values in the table the graph changes. One problem i had with Fathom was adding a filter to a summary table. I don't know why but I type exactly what the activity told me to but the filter kept erring in computation. I really wish I could have gotten this to work because it would be a very useful tool. The problem isn't as much with the program itself as it is with the activity sheet. Overall I really like Fathom and think it is a awesome way to compare and analyze data.

  1. The filter is usually a problem because you MUST add the units to the value when you type it. If the number is in inches you MUST add that so it matches the data in the attribute.

Nice that you noted the dynamic update with the data and graphs and how this is similar to GSP. Glad you liked it!
